The fastest growing residential property developer, Apex Properties says it will not offer houses to Batswana on a rent-to-buy basis, which could empower Batswana to own houses on monthly installments, said Group Chairman Clifford Maje, this week at the annual Weins Financial planning Convention in Gaborone.

Responding to a question from an eager audience, who wanted to know if Apex would introduce an initiative to empower citizens, Maje responded that Apex Properties has no plans of introducing the Rent to Own policy as part of their business strategy. He noted that although such a policy is a good long term plan for those aspiring to own homes, APEX is a company focused on investments and good customer service which in turn should bring in noticeable profits. The Chairman highlighted that although some companies may be benefiting from such, they are in no position to start operating like a bank. “The country has an extensive shortage of property, therefore to match the demand we have to continue keeping the standards, “he said.

He noted that although some countries are practicing much safer and environmentally friendly technologies like the implementation of Green Houses, Botswana is lagging behind on such developments. He emphasized that the implementation of the technology will take longer than expected and people should not dwell too much on it for now. He noted that the technology is much more expensive than people think. “Although it might seem like a good plan going into the future, Botswana on its own is not better placed to implement it.”

Maje noted that although some of these developments may be expensive the new Airport Junction Mall extension will be Solar Powered.

The Group Chairman highlighted that even though they keep an eye on changing trends, they are always eager to identify valuable opportunities. He noted that they also invest in developing relevant market products and they ensure that they keep track of customers changing needs.

Maje emphasised that people should not mistake them for being solely properties dealers, highlighting that they promote business intelligence by offering advisory services which ensure that clients have relevant information that enables them to make constant decisions.
